This year's Poe Museum Ornament celebrates Edgar Allan Poe's "Annabel Lee." Our ornament envelopes the mystical kingdom by the sea within a chilling wind, brought on by angels envious of the beloved maiden.
First printed in the New-York Daily Tribune beside Poe's obituary on October 9, 1849, "Annabel Lee" proved to be a proper swan song for the renowned poet and is regarded today as one of his most popular works. The Evening Post wrote: “Nothing that ever came from his pen better illustrates his unsurpassing mastery of the rhythm and melody of English verse.” Poe's poetic skill established “Annabel Lee” as a classic in American literature and Romantic poetry, revered for its themes on love and loss.
